My mother is very practical, yet tries to see the brighter side of things at the same time. Something she has always said to us when we seemed to be going through some personal crises, is, "Ten years from now, you'll never know the difference".

For the most part, it was true. What seemed very important to me at the time is virtually non-existent and forgotten now. I used to hate to hear it, but I find myself using the same saying to my own kids.

I doubt if my mother made it up, but it sure is an accurate statement!
